2020-2021 Master Class Opportunities

JAMES EHNES - VIOLIN

October 6th

James Ehnes has established himself as one of the most sought-after violinists on the international stage. Gifted with a rare combination of stunning virtuosity, serene lyricism and an unfaltering musicality, Ehnes is a favourite guest of many of the world’s most respected conductors including Ashkenazy, Alsop, Sir Andrew Davis, and more.

NYS will be offering several master class sessions with leading artists this season.

Tage Larsen joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra trumpet section in 2002. He came from the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, where he served as second trumpet. Larsen was principal trumpet at the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, and he served as the solo cornet with The “President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band.

ANTHONY MCGILL - CLARINET

November 19th

Clarinetist Anthony McGill is the principal clarinet of the New York Philharmonic — that orchestra’s first African-American principal player — and maintains a dynamic international solo and chamber music career. Hailed for his “trademark brilliance, penetrating sound and rich character” (The New York Times), as well as for his “exquisite combination of technical refinement and expressive radiance” (The Baltimore Sun), McGill also serves as an ardent advocate for helping music education reach underserved communities and for addressing issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in classical music. McGill was honored to take part in the inauguration of President Barack Obama, premiering a piece written for the occasion by John Williams and performing alongside violinist Itzhak Perlman, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and pianist Gabriela Montero.

NYS will be offering several master class sessions with leading artists this season.
