New Conductors Announced
Dear NYS Community, As many of you are aware, we have been working diligently to fill the vacant conductor positions for the Concert and Prelude Orchestras. On behalf of the NYS Board and the Search Committees, I am thrilled to announce that Steven Huang will be joining NYS as our Concert Orchestra conductor and Aaron Lofaro as our Prelude Orchestra conductor. We warmly welcome Steven and Aaron to the NYS family.
Steven Huang has extensive experience conducting youth, college, and professional ensembles domestically and abroad. He currently serves as the Music Director of the New Westchester Symphony Orchestra and prior to his recent move to Connecticut spent sixteen years on the faculty of Ohio University as its Director of Orchestral Activities. Steven holds an MM in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Michigan and an undergraduate degree from Harvard University.
Aaron Lofaro has over twenty years of experience as a music educator in Fairfield County. He is currently the Director of Orchestras at Central Middle School in Greenwich and previously conducted the String Orchestra of the Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras for seven seasons. Aaron has completed his long-term Suzuki training from the Hartt School of Music and holds a BM and an MME from the Roberts Wesleyan College and the Western Connecticut State University respectively.
I would like to thank the Search Committees for the numerous hours spent on evaluating the excellent candidate pool and the extensive interview process. We would also like to thank the students and friends of NYS who volunteered to participate as members and observers of the Ad-Hoc Orchestra, specifically formed for the Concert Orchestra conductor search process. Finally, we would like to thank the Fairfield County Summer String Orchestra for lending a hand with the Prelude Orchestra conductor search process. Sincerely, Joel Pitkin NYS Board Chair
